What
the NPC Can do for Your Organization? |
|
|
As part of our mission, NPC works
to strengthen and support neighborhood and other Northside
community organizations and to help new organizations
form. Through Council members and our full-time staff
Facilitators, NPC can offer the following services and
support to your Northside organization.
CONSULTATION
NPC is available on an ongoing basis to answer questions
and assist neighborhood and other nonprofit organizations
in defining their mission, setting goals, planning activities,
developing their leadership and communication mechanisms
(including a newsletter), and taking care of the “business”
end of organizations: bylaws, dues, meetings, etc.
MEETING FACILITATION
NPC highly recommends that there be an assigned facilitator
at each meeting to help the agenda move along and keep
a few people from dominating the discussion. NPC can assist
new groups to facilitate their initial meetings, and existing
groups to conduct planning or special meetings where impartial
outside assistance may be helpful. We can also simply
attend meetings as a resource for whoever is facilitating
the meeting.
INFORMATION AND
REFERRAL SOURCE
NPC can provide
member organizations with information about Northside
issues, services, and resources for your meetings or newsletter,
as well as linking you up with speakers and professional
resources for specific needs.
|
COMMUNICATION
The Northside News, published by the NPC, provides
neighborhood associations, nonprofit organizations, businesses,
City officials, schools, and other service providers with
a vehicle to communicate about issues and upcoming events
to the community at large. The Northside News circulation
blankets the Northside, reaching over 11,000 households
and commercial destinations. Your organization may choose
to coordinate your own newsletter with this community
resource.
TRAINING
NPC can help your organization or its officers/leadership
group access training on the role and mission of neighborhood
organizations, development of organization leadership
or board of directors, community organizing skills, public
relations and communications, planning, fundraising, and
other organizational needs.
TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE
NPC is able to assist with reasonable start-up costs,
especially of new neighborhood associations (such as on-site
child care for meetings). However, we strongly encourage
each neighborhood organization to develop its own financial
resources through dues, fees, and/or contributions. The
NPC also provides photocopying (in reasonable numbers)
at its office in the Dane County Human Services Building
(1202 Northport Drive, Room 300) for member organizations.
